UANTHONY SHEPHERD (United Kingdom), is a conceptual visual artists working with natural and recycled materials to produce site-specific installations and interventions. For the Old Harbour Art Trail he is working on two projects. One will consider space, boundaries and connections and the other will examine the nurture, care and fight of women against the backdrop of male privilege.
Title: Connecting Spaces
Having traveled the 3200 kilometres between Jakobstad and Anthony Shepherd’s home town in the UK by camper van. He had time to reflect and consider how the aspects of space, boundaries and connections affect and shape our lives. He is interested in how as humans we unite in these varying geographical landscapes and social structures with our differing ideologies and perspectives. He also acknowledge that we have far more in common than that which divide us.
Title: The Boxer (a love story)
Anthony Shepherd is interested in trying understand the world from a woman’s point of view with the acknowledgment of male privilege. He is questioning whether the same exological and economic patterns would exist if women were the predominant captains of industry. He does not have the answers and it reasonable to assume we may never know this hypothetical idea… but he has witnessed that women approach situations differently compared to men and thus have the potential to produced different outcomes.
The Boxer explores the relationship between a woman and the environment. Like any love story it’s multi layered and complex. Here she is expressing her sadness and sorrow for what’s happening. This excessive exploitation of environment resources is not what she planned or wanted. Her prime motivation is to nurture, care and protect. She will however continue to fight this losing battle with unwavering love and devotion, regardless of any restrictions imposed. Waiting and wanting to be seen and heard.
